We are working with God to help grow healthy Families and Churches
Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.

Our Story

MARIUS GRADWELL

I was born in Cape Town. At the age of 11 my parents moved to Pretoria where I was raised and grew up as a teenager and young adult and received my education. I had a powerful encounter with God in 1975 which led to my salvation and call to the ministry.  I spent ten years in the corporate world as part of my preparation for ministry followed by two years of formal training at Hatfield Bible College in Pretoria.

LINDA GRADWELL

I was born, raised and educated in Pretoria. I met Marius in 1976 at a gathering for young people and soon after that I committed my life to Jesus Christ receiving Him as my Lord and Saviour.

We married in 1978 and are the proud and blessed parents of four married daughters, their spouses with seven grandsons and two granddaughters.

During 1987 our family moved to Mthatha in the Eastern Cape, South Africa where we pioneered a local Church.  The ten years that followed not only dealt with our stereotyped mind-set and deep-rooted racial prejudice; but it was also during this time that a passion to see the injustices of the past addressed was birthed in us.

During 1997 we passed the baton on to Pastors Don and Nomsa Phillips and moved to East London where we joined the pastoral staff of Christian Centre, Abbotsford, serving for 23 years. We have been involved in planting various churches.

We are honoured to lead the Cotn (Church of the Nations) Heartbeat Apostolic Cluster of Churches. Our goal is to assist and help churches and ministries to become more effective in advancing God’s Kingdom.

We have a passion and dream to see the fatherless and hopeless youth of South Africa live productive and full lives by helping them to discover their identity in Christ, overcome their weaknesses and find true freedom in Jesus.

The focus of our ministry is to help build healthy families and healthy churches.

Our Story
Our Mandate

We have retired from full-time pastoral ministry of more than three decades. The following two scriptures best describe our God-given mandate for the next season of our lives.

“Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.”    Colossians 1:28-29 ESV

“Speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.” Ephesians 4:15-16 NASB

We have selected the name "ENERGEIA MINISTRIES" because it best captures what God placed in our hearts to do. The phrases "his energy that he powerfully works within me" and  "according to the proper working of each individual part" in the scriptures above are translated from the original Greek word "energeia".

We will dedicate the new season of our lives to work with God and others to see every believer come to maturity in Christ.

Our passion is to see healthy Families and healthy Churches.

It is our desire to make ourselves and our gifts available to the Body of Christ.

Ministry

Today, 8th November 2022 we arrived in Bahrain. We are looking forward to spending time with our children and the members of Rivers of Joy Church.

Our 6 weeks in the UK have been overwhelmingly awesome. When we reflect on all the amazing people we reconnected with and the new people we met, our hearts are full of joy and gratitude.

We celebrated Ruwach Christian Church’s 20th anniversary, had the privilege of the team from SA join us for 2 weeks. The following week we were at London Network Church. Then travelled up north to Tamworth, Coton Green Church, to Lynn Swart in Manchester and the church in Little Lever, Bolton, King’s Church. We travelled back south to Haywards Heath and to Maidstone, Jubilee. Our last Sunday was spent at Ruwach again.

A massive THANK YOU to all our hosts, our dinner invites and lifts and all the many blessings. And to Carolyn and John Lawson for lending us your car for so many weeks. We leave our love and God’s blessings with all of you and this great country you live in. The many expressions of God’s communities in the different parts of your country really blessed us. Keep on doing the good work to which Jesus has called you!
